Friday saw the arrival of Mr. Phillips' Science Challenge, 'The Troll Bridge Challenge'. The pupils were split into groups and were allocated an adult helper. They had to make a bridge out of one newspaper which could hold a 500g weight, or the 'troll'.

Year 6 pupil Jessica reported on the event:

Hey my name is Jessica and I took part in the Troll Bridge Challenge also known as Mr Philips' Science Challenge. It was loads of fun. We had to work in teams containing one pupil from each junior year group: 6,5,4 and 3 (and also an adult). In this challenge we had to build a bridge of only newspaper and selotape and our end product had to hold a 500g weight. It was our decision whether we made it span a 30cm river or a 60cm river, but the good news is that everyone's bridge held the weight. Yippyyyyy! At the end of the day EVERYONE got a certificate. It was all good fun and it showed a great sign of teamwork. Some looked pretty and some looked like a clump of tape but we learned a lot and so did the adults that helped.
